Bible-Believing Liberals
Does doctrine divide? Does the mission unite? Can the Church’s doctrine ever take a back seat to the Church’s mission? Does belief determine action…or vice versa?
Two fantastic articles:
The New Liberals by Don Matzat (my Academy prof in 2000)
“…there is a new threat on the horizon. It is no longer the classic liberal but the new liberal – the culturally relevant postmodern evangelical.”
Bible-Believing Liberals by Todd Wilkin
“You see, you can affirm Scripture’s authority in principle even while denying it in practice. Bible-believing liberals aren’t liberal in what they say about the Bible, Bible-believing liberals are liberal in how they use the Bible…We’ve heard liberals say it for years; now we’re hearing Bible-believing Christians say it: Doctrine divides. That is, insistence on doctrinal clarity and purity is divisive.”
A careful reading of the above articles will reward the serious reader. I give these pieces 10 out of 10.
